The Western Cape's used-parts trade concentrates in Cape Town's northern and industrial suburbs. Bellville, Parow, Maitland and Epping have long-standing clusters of yards and parts dealers, and the Voortrekker Road corridor has been a place people go to find car parts for generations. Outside the metro, supply thins out quickly: George and the Garden Route have some coverage, and the Boland and Swartland towns are served mostly by whatever the Cape Town yards hold plus farm-country breakers here and there.
What Cape driving does to cars
Two things shape the stock here. The first is salt air. Cars that live near the Atlantic or False Bay coast carry corrosion you won't see on a highveld car. It starts inside panel seams, under window rubbers and in electrical connectors before it ever shows on paint. That cuts both ways when buying used: inspect coastal-sourced panels and electrical parts carefully (ask where the donor car lived; a good yard will tell you), and know that panels sourced inland fetch a premium here for exactly this reason. We move parts from dry provinces to Cape buyers often.
The second is that cars simply last longer here. The mild climate and the absence of highveld hail mean the Cape runs one of the oldest fleets of any metro in the country: old Corollas, Tazzes, Golfs and Conquests that would have been scrapped elsewhere are still daily drivers. That keeps demand alive for parts that manufacturers stopped stocking years ago, and the used market is realistically the only market for them.
The vehicle mix
Metro Cape Town skews more toward hatchbacks and European badges than the national average: Polo, Golf, older BMW and Mercedes models are common requests. Head into the Boland, Overberg and Swartland and it becomes bakkie country like the rest of South Africa: Hilux, Isuzu and Ranger parts for farm vehicles, plus trailer and canopy hardware for the agricultural towns. The N7 up the West Coast and the N1 through the Hex River are hard-working truck routes, and the long mountain passes (Sir Lowry's, Du Toitskloof, the Huguenot approaches) put real wear on brakes and clutches for anything that tows or carries.
How Kasi Spares works here
We source nationwide, which matters more in the Cape than most places: when the right part isn't in a Cape Town yard, or when you specifically want a rust-free panel off an inland car, we find it in Gauteng or the Free State and courier it down. Tell us the part and the VIN, and we WhatsApp you a price, usually within 24 hours.
