Ford's used-parts demand in South Africa is led from the load bin: the Ranger is one of the country's best-selling vehicles, it's built here in Silverton, and it works hard enough that the parts trade around it never goes quiet. The passenger cars (Fiesta, Figo, EcoSport) add steady hatchback demand, and a long tail of older Fords (Bantam bakkies, Ikons, Couriers) survives almost entirely on the used market.
The models that drive demand
The Ranger dominates. The 2.2 and 3.2 Duratorq diesels power a huge fleet of work and leisure bakkies, and requests cover the full spread: complete engines, turbos, injectors, gearboxes, clutch kits, front-end panels, tailgates, headlights and mirrors. Late-model Ranger lights and tailgates are also theft targets, which keeps used demand high and makes provenance worth checking. Buy from sellers who can say where the part came from. The Everest shares Ranger running gear, which widens the donor pool for both.
The Fiesta and Figo carry the passenger side: accident-driven demand for bumpers, fenders, bonnets and lights, plus engines and gearboxes for the older 1.4 and 1.6 units. The Bantam, long out of production, is still a working bakkie in many towns, and its parts come only from yards now.
What buyers commonly search for
Ranger clutch and dual-mass flywheel parts are a constant, worn down by heavy towing and hard work. Duratorq injectors and complete engines for high-mileage bakkies are the other steady search, and good tested units hold their price. On the smaller cars, the 1.0 EcoBoost engine has a following of owners hunting replacement engines and cooling parts. Cooling-system parts generally are a common Ford request across the range, including radiators, fans and expansion tanks, and the used market covers them well.
Price context
Ford sits in the middle of the market. Ranger parts are plentiful but demand is fierce, so prices for the popular items (lights, tailgates, drivetrain) hold firmer than raw supply would suggest. Fiesta and Figo parts are affordable and easy to find. Parts for the discontinued models (Bantam, Ikon, Courier) are cheap when found, but finding the right donor takes the phoning-around that is exactly the work we do.
